A Serendipitous Journey to Oklahoma’s Film Frontier.
“We have to be ready when Hollywood comes to Oklahoma.”
That single statement at a film industry seminar in Oklahoma City changed everything. As a lifelong serial entrepreneur and marketing professor with a PhD from the University of North Texas, I have built businesses across industries—from art galleries to custom homes, food production to marketing consulting. But it was that moment in Oklahoma City, visiting a friend in 2021, that revealed an extraordinary opportunity.
Discovering Oklahoma's Hidden Film Advantage:
While attending that seminar to learn about Oklahoma's emerging film industry, I discovered something remarkable: Oklahoma offered one of the most generous cash rebate programs in the nation, yet lacked a significant production company capable of taking projects from script through post-production. The industry was ready for growth, but missing a crucial piece.
As someone who had just launched a Social Entrepreneurship program with a Media for Social Change concentration at Texas Lutheran University, I immediately saw the potential. Oklahoma wasn't just offering incentives—it was offering a genuine opportunity to build something meaningful.
The Script That Started It All:
The timing was perfect. At that same Austin Film Festival where I took my students to learn about filmmaking, one of them, Kyle Gresham, discovered his calling. After struggling to get past page 10 of established scripts in the competition, Kyle left inspired to write his own. The result was Delivery Fee, a compelling story that would become Bricktown Films' flagship project.
More Than Sponsorship—Be Part of the Story
This is your opportunity to align with Oklahoma's independent film movement while gaining authentic marketing value that connects with today's conscious consumers.
Building Oklahoma's Film Future
What started as curiosity became commitment. I rented an office in Oklahoma City's historic Bricktown district and began building something unprecedented—a full-service production company rooted in Oklahoma's unique advantages:
Oklahoma's Competitive Edge:
37% cash rebate on qualified expenditures—money back in your pocket, not tax credits
50-60% lower production costs compared to coastal markets
Authentic locations and natural beauty that can't be replicated
Supportive infrastructure and community eager to see the industry grow
Untapped talent pool ready for opportunity
The Team That Makes It Possible
Great films require great partnerships. Brad Heath joined as our producer early in the journey, bringing essential industry expertise. When I transitioned to a Lecturer position at the University of Oklahoma, I met June Bood, a rare combination of creative writing talent and CPA precision.
In August 2023, we partnered with Buffalo 8 in Santa Monica to package our films for financing, combining Oklahoma advantages with Hollywood connections.
Education Meets Production
Perhaps the most exciting development has been our partnership with Greenlight Studios, the University of Oklahoma's student-run production company. As a lifelong educator, I believe strongly in developing Oklahoma's below-the-line workforce. This collaboration on Delivery Fee (scheduled for May-June 2026) represents more than film production—it's workforce development that strengthens Oklahoma's entire industry ecosystem.
Why Oklahoma? Why Now?
The question isn't why someone would choose Oklahoma for film production—it's why more haven't discovered what we've found. Oklahoma offers:
Financial advantages that stretch every dollar further
Creative freedom without the constraints of oversaturated markets
Authentic storytelling opportunities rooted in genuine regional culture
Community support that treats filmmakers as partners, not just visitors
Growth potential in an industry still writing its story
Join Our Story
Three years after renting that first office in Bricktown, we're poised to begin production on Delivery Fee with several projects following. We've proven that Oklahoma can compete with any market when vision meets opportunity.
Whether you're an investor seeking profitable opportunities, a creative professional ready for authentic storytelling, or a partner who shares our belief in Oklahoma's potential, we invite you to be part of what we're building.
Because great stories—like great businesses—are built on recognizing opportunity when others see only possibility.
